Avionics Design Services Ltd.
Midland, Ontario, Canada
We are experts in avionics systems approvals in all types of aircraft. We have been providing design and approval services to the aviation industry for everything from in-flight entertainment to data acquisition to major avionics upgrades for over 10 years. Our client base ranges from small avionics shops to major airlines and manufacturers.
Avionics Design Services was incorporated in 1996. The principal, and only employee, was a Transport Canada Delegated Airworthiness Representative for avionics and electrical systems with a background in aircraft modifications, ATE, data acquisition, simulation, metrology and recent experience in a new Aircraft programme, the Global Express.
Since then we have become a DAO (Design Approval Organization) and a Approved Manufacturing Organization of 15 staff with design and certification projects ranging from voice warning systems for helicopters, to TSO certifications of Audio Selector Panels, Interior Systems Design for corporate aircraft, Data Acquisition for flight test programmes or avionics retrofits, or special missions aircraft. We have Offices in Midland, Toronto and Calgary. We are also a CGA (Controlled Goods Approval) certified company.

NEW!
FDR/ELT control panel
for the Q400.
We have two new exciting ELT products pending approval for Bombardier Products.
For the DHC-8 Q400 we have two different Kannad 406 AF ELT installations to replace the existing ELT. One uses the regular 406 AF ELT and is very similar to the OEM installation. However this configuration requires that you run new wires from the ELT to the control panel in the cockpit – not a big problem as the aircraft is already open for maintenance. The second configuration uses the Kannad 406 AF Compact which can be installed without running new wires in the fuselage. This is a huge labour saving and makes retrofits between major inspections practical. Both use our own FDR/ELT control panel or may use the OEM part interchangeably.
For the CRJ 200/100 we have an Artex 406 ELT installation to replace the existing ELT. This design has a clear advantage over the OEM service bulletin. Installation is simpler. You do not have to modify the tailcone or replace the mounting base. This installation does not require any new wires. Just relocate existing wires in the terminal block in the aft equipment bay.
Both of these STCs will be available in January 2011.
